Abertay has a particular expertise in the areas of law relating to human trafficking, labour law, human rights, the law relating to debt, intellectual property, and corporate law and governance. We welcome applications from students considering research into these areas. These are matters which are strongly influenced by political developments within Europe and also by public awareness of the interconnected nature of a business, the availability of human labour, and the need for businesses and governments to act responsibly and in accordance with an established principle of good governance.

Our research students draw on the accounting, finance, management, human resources and marketing expertise of their fellow researchers at Abertay – part of the University’s interdisciplinary research ethos.

Our research degrees

  • You have the option of studying an LLM by Research, an MPhil or a PhD.
  • When deciding which degree is right for you, you should consider the level of commitment required, the duration, cost and your career aspirations.
  • That being said, our research degrees are flexible. You can begin an LLM or an MPhil and then seek to transfer to a PhD without having to start your project all over again. You can also switch from full-time to part-time study, and vice versa.
